School's in for summer!
It's summer in Montreal, and we're out every day, all day surfing!
Some of the time its for my surf classes, and some of the time, it's just my room mates and I, out there having a good time.
Today, I had an awesome group of 6 students, all of whom learned very fast. And then, after they were gone, Monkey (left), JL and I went out and ripped it up, all for Mirco who was shooting photo's.
| Jo Louis was ripping it up again as usual... not bad for a Quebec boy trucker wanna be ;-) |
| Monkey says Jo Louis legs are too straight.... I dunno....... |
| ... Looks like its working for Jo Louis ;-) |
| Monkey.... um... I think the wave is over here... no no, wait, its over here... actually no, wait, let me see, lets look back here.... aaaahhh there it is.... now... how do I UNWIND these shoulders for the next turn... um... er.... urum.... |
| JL hunting monkey for dinner.... |
| Mirco said, "bend your legs"... so he did! |
| If Monkey can do this, so can I! |
| Look, I'll do it again! |
| Cowboys!
We like them for tow in ;-)
| Showing the students how to go from the knees to standing in a low position so that they learn the first day to keep knees bent, and not the waist bent - a hard habit to break later. |
| Monkey says I'm taking a crap in front of the students! |
| Time to surf a little... |
| See Monkey... soulders leading the way.... ;-) |
| How long can I hold that green grind...? 5 seconds... 10 seconds.... doh - crash! |
| Spray the Monkey! |
| Ok, we always said JL was so relaxed he was horrizontal, but this...
| Did I mention that Monkey is one of Montreals best break dancers.... no kidding. This is amazing... and he can hold this for about 30 seconds. |
| Oh, right... I'm supposed to be teaching... silly me.
First I get them on the wave. Then body boarding for a bit until they begin to figure out the dynamics of the wave. After that, kneeboarding, feeling the board carve, and eventually, one foot up (drop knee) and finally, both feet in a low crouch.
Sounds easy?
It's not!
| And when they come off the wave, I get to surf until the next student arrives.
You can really drive through the bottom of the wave and hit that lip super fast and hard, and the wave now has so many awesome sections.
| Speed is everything.... right across the top of the entire wave, and then power drive through the bottom and back up! |
| Mirror mirror, on the wall..
Which is the cutest room mate of them all?
| Is it Monkey?
See boys, this is how you carve!
| Is it Corran?
JL... this is how you top turn... now I'm going to go over there and watch you do it.
| Is it Jean Louis?
See Corran, this is how you Ollie.
None of the above. Its the longboarder!
Don't you know... size matters!!!!
