| The "right side" of Habitat is in. With all the rain, a section of wave that is only ever up in the spring came in for a few days, and I got to take my new Hipsquash out onto the wave. She's a fickle one... really hard to catch (Static line only, and with a tendency to literally explode the fins off your board if you mess it up),and also very hard to surf... several weak points that'll kick you out in a heartbeat, and then it suddely jacks up and you face plant.
But, that very ferature that makes it jack up also lends itself for some really dynamic surfing - ocean style. You can get totally vertical lipturns and snaps off the top of the wave, and air on command. We only had a little cheap camera on hand, so the photo's are average, but hey.... we were there to surf, not take photo's! |

| Christine using a static line to get into the wave. The "safe" way is to start off lying down, pendulum out into the current, get up and then surf over to the wave. The "hero" way is to jump onto the board standing from the bank in what I call a "Static Start". The probem is that if you don;t get it 100% right, your board hits bottom and you literally "explode" all the fins off it. Ouch! | ||||||

| I was really able to generate a lot of speed into that lipturn and get totally weightless or airborn. Its such a dynamic wave... I wish it was always in! | ||||||

| I can't wait to get back out there again. I hope it comes back in (yep, its already gone) before it freezes here, because winter sure does last a long time in Quebec! But this wave... its the closest thing I've come to being able to do the same moves as in the ocean, except that you get to practice the same move over and over because the wave is constant!

| Did someone say winter? yep, its already butt freezing cold here, as you can tell by the gloves, hoodie and 5mm wet suits. Hugo made a brief appearance without gloves - that lasted about 2 rides and then he was begging for a pair! O'Neill just gave me a new Psyco 2 wetsuit, and I have to say that its awesome!!! So warm and toasty despite the freezing water! This is Andreanne, looking somewhat less sexy than she was in her bikini this summer! | ||||||
