| Zicatella and Puerto Escondido has grown a lot in jsut one year. Cappucino, crepes, frappachino's, croissants etc are now all part of a normal day. Prices are going up too, and the little secluded village is no more. But at the same time, when its flat, at least there are things to do now. | ||||||||||||||

| Below: On the way to the airport, we came across some very drugged out chap in dire need of mental help, masturbating against a barbed wire fense. So after dropping Jimmi off, we returned to the fense, and took this picture for Jimmi. His response: I was just getting over that traumatic experience and you had to go open the wound! | ||||||||||||||

| That evening I went out for another surf at Zicatella and I got some awesome rides on my little 6'3" squashtail. The board is just so fast and zippy, it's a pure joy to ride.
Zicatella deserves its reputation. Even head high waves can totally drill you into the sand. Here, under my board its barely a foot deep, so when you go down, you go down hard. It's truly the heaviest wave I've ever surfed.... and I haven't surfed this spot when its really big. On the other hand I was very pleased with the strength of the boards. The lighter EPS foam allows for a much stronger laminate in Epoxy over the top, and while boards were being broken here at an alarming rate (several a day) I never even came close even though I landed squarely on the deck several times after getting sucked over the falls. |

| There are 4 "board repair shops" at Zicatella, all who specalise in reparing boards broken in 2, overnight. And there is more than enough work to keep them all in business, with several employees working day and night. Zicatella breaks boards... lots of them! | ||||||||||||||

| The next day, back to La Punta for an evening session on head high waves to get back into the groove before the next morning. These were the first waves of 2 ground swells that were moving in - one WSW and one NW. When these two would merge... huge sets were in store for us. | ||||||||||||||

| Surf in... swim out... surf in... swim out. One of the locals eventually paddled over to me and said "You're taking too many waves"... so I backed off. My 6'9" roundtail is so fast that I could paddle onto waves 5 or 6 meters furter out than anyone else, and I was making far more sections. A great advantage to have more than one board to choose from. | ||||||||||||||

| This English guy was out there on a little 5'6" twin tip. He had a hard time getting onto the waves, but once on them he ripped.... doing all kinds of cool skateboard style tricks on the wave. Its certainly motivated me to continue developing twin tips for river surfing. | ||||||||||||||

| Francesca, a Sweedish girl who now lives in Puerto Escondido and works in board repair is a budding shaper, so we had some cool talks about shapes etc. Its one of the cool things about surfing is that shaping etc is all open sourse, and information is freely traded between shapers. | ||||||||||||||

| While the waves were not lipping that much because of the high tide, they were still cool to ride and I got some great rides. | ||||||||||||||
