| A Big WSW and NW swell rolled in overnight, and the next day it was firing huge out at La Punta. Most people stayed in the usual lineup, but for those looking for a little more excitement, you could paddle about 100m further out to an outer break and take in some really big waves. For these waves to fire required the WSW and NW swells to combine, which happened about 2x /hr. So you needed to be on the ball because it was a long wait between waves.
Some of the waves were more than 3 times my height, somewhere in the 18 to 20ft range. Most of them were more like 15ft. But I did get some really nice big waves, and you could surf these all the way to the regular Punta take off, and if you made the section past the rocks (not easy), you could surf the wave all the way down the beach. Over a minute ride on a very fast wave. Then a long walk back past the point to a sketchy set of rocks where you dive in between sets and paddle back out to wait again. |

| One of the bigger waves of the day, I dade the paddle on and the drop, and surfed this thing for ove a minute to the beach.
Luke, who had attempted to take the 1st wave of the set and ended up getting badly hurt in the rocks on the inside was paddling out and came face to face with this sucker.... |

| Here I've made the drop, and now all you have to do is hang on and not get bounced off your board. You get going so fast its really tough to stay on the board.
You can see Luke in the lower part of the picture trying to duck dive under the wave... with little luck. |

| Of course I took my fair share of whipeouts too.... and a wipeout here meant a lot of down time.... and hopefully not being drug into the rocks. | ||||||||||

| Riding along the top of one of these things is the craziest feeling.... zooming along the top, looking 15 to 18 ft down into the trough, and watching it suck out and get steeper right underneath you. Awesome! | ||||||||||

| One of the two spectators that afternoon. | ||||||||||
| You have to walk through this cave on the way back after every ride. There is a short time when you cannot see any waves coming, and you hope none are! | ||||||||||
